Liquid organic fertilizer in this article refers to notion of organic fertilizers and compost or it can be said organic liquid fertilizer is liquid fertilizer made from organic materials through composting.
The nature and characteristics of the liquid organic fertilizer
Liquid organic fertilizer can not be used as the primary fertilizer in farming. Use solid organic fertilizer as the main fertilizer / base. Solid organic fertilizer will be stored longer in growing media and can provide nutrients for the long term. Meanwhile, existing nutrients in the liquid manure carried more susceptible to erosion. But on the other hand, is more easily digested by the plant.
liquid fertilizer more effective and efficient when applied to the leaves, flowers and stems rather than solid fertilizer in the growing media (except in the hydroponic method). Liquid organic fertilizer can serve as a stimulus to grow. Especially when the plants begin to sprout or when in the transition from vegetative to generative phase to stimulate the growth of fruits and seeds. Leaves and stems can absorb fertilizers applied directly through the stomata or pores that exist on its surface. Using liquid organic fertilizer through the leaves must be careful. Take care not to overdose, because it could kill the plants. Giving excessive foliar fertilizers will also invite pests and diseases in plants. Thus, the accuracy of the dose should be strictly observed to obtain maximum results.
Each plant has the capacity to absorb nutrients as food. Theoretically, the plant only capable of absorbing the nutrients available in the soil no more than 2% per day. Therefore, a liquid organic fertilizer on the leaves should be diluted first.
Because of its nature as an additional fertilizer, organic liquid fertilizer should be rich in micro-nutrients while the macro nutrients met by main fertilizer through the solid organic fertilizer. In order to get a specific micro-nutrient content, it can be selected from the raw materials of fertilizer.
How to make a liquid organic fertilizer
- · Prepare the following materials: 1 sack of chicken manure, half a sack of bran, 30 kg of forage (hay, banana stem, legume leaf), 100 grams of brown sugar, 50 ml bio-activator (EM4), water.
- · Prepare an airtight plastic drum of 100 liters sized as a medium fertilizer production, one meter aerotor transparent hose (approximately diameter 0.5 cm), plastic bottles of mineral water of 1 liter sized. Punch a hole on drum lids as big as the hose aerotor diameter.
- · Cut or chopped organic materials that will be used as feedstock. Put into the drum and add water, composition: 2 parts of organic material, 1 part of water. Then stir until evenly homogeneous.
- · Dissolve bio-activator like EM4, brown sugar and 5 liters of water then mix its well. Then add the aquaous into the drum that containing fertilizer and raw materials.
- · Close the drum tightly, then insert the hose through the drum lids that have been given hole. Glue the hose into the drum lids so no air gap. Let the other end of the hose into the bottle which had been given water.
- · Make sure the drum is really tightly, as the reaction will take place anaerobically. Hose function is to stabilize the temperature of the dough to get rid of gas produced without any air from outside into the drum.
- · Wait until 7-10 days.
- · Split the dregs and the liquid by filtering. Use fabric filter. Dregs of dough can be used as solid organic fertilizer.
- · Put the liquid that has passed the filtration into plastic or glass bottle, close it tightly. Liquid organic fertilizer has been finished and is ready for use. When packaged, the fertilizer can be used up to 6 months.
The use of liquid organic fertilizer
Liquid organic fertilizer applied on leaves, flowers or stems. Do this by diluting the fertilizer with clean water first and then sprayed on the plants. Spraying liquid organic fertilizer must not be more than 2% . In most products, dilution performed until the hundredfold. It means every 1 liter fertilizer diluted in 100 liters of water.
To stimulate the growth of leaves, liquid organic fertilizer can be sprayed on plants newly sprouted. Meanwhile, to produce fruit, seeds or bulbs, fertilizer plants can be sprayed at the transition from vegetative to generative phase. It can be sprayed directly on the flowers or the stems and leaves. Each spraying should be done at intervals of one week if drought or three days during the rainy season. However, this dose should be adjusted again to the type of plants to be sprayed.
