Because it uses water as the main source in the planting, the water that is used cannot be selected carelessly.
Water that is used must containing nutrients and relevant with the composition required by the plant. Hydroponic method is grouped into three kinds based on the planting medium used.
- Hydroponic substrate
Several types of materials which often used as hydroponics material substrate is charcoal, ash, pumice, and many more. Materials must meet the criteria to support the plants grow like can hold the water, has a high porosity, and as a place for roots growth.
- NFT hydroponics
NFT can be definited as planting by putting part of plant roots in water that has been mixed with various compositions that plants need. Plant roots will grow in the lining of nutrients.
- Hydroponic Aeroponic
The fog will be absorbed by plants through pores. In hydroponics aeroponics, plants will be hung using Styrofoam that has been hollowed out.
Advantages hydroponic planting models:
- Superior in efficiency of land using
- Free of disease because it does not use soil
- The products have higher quality than other methods
- The total of production result is more than any other planting models
- More practical
- The using of water and fertilizers can be reduced
- Pests and diseases are easier to control
Disadvantages hydroponic planting models:
- Expensive capital is required
- The operational cost is not cheap
- The plant model substrate is more quickly wither
